Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in a Riyadh Cup exhibition match as the Major League Soccer club prepares to open the season in late February.
However, the Saudi Pro League team will be without Ronaldo as he recovers from a calf injury.
Cristiano is in the final stages of recovery to be able to join the group,” said Luis Castro, manager of Al Nassr at his press conference on Wednesday. “We expect him to be able to start working with the team in the next few days. He will be an element that will be missing in the game.”
Ronaldo’s absence is a blow to organizers and football fans around the world who have been eager to see the latest – and perhaps final – installment of the rivalry that has helped define modern football. Will Messi at least be involved in the match in the capital of Saudi Arabia?
