The Current World Champions scored three goals in a 3-1 win against Costa Rica. Albecelste created three scoring chances in the 1st half, but all three were saved by Keylor Navas. Alejandro Garnacho had an effort on goal from a difficult angle saved by Navas and Gio Lo Celso got onto the rebound but Navas made an even better save to reduce Argentina’s scoreline.
A few minutes later it was a free kick for Argentina and it was Nicolás Otamendi with a great header but once again Navas with an even better save. Costa Rica did not create any scoring chances until their goal.
Costa Rica’s counter-attack, Nicolás Otamendi was tackled for speed and Walter Benítez took the first shot, but the rebound scored.
The 2nd half started the same as the first, with La Albecelste creating chances. Enzo Fernández had the 1st chance, but his effort from close range was saved by Navas.
It would take an Ángel Di María free-kick to beat Navas. Albecelste were awarded a free kick and it was Di Maria who took it, curling it over the wall and beating Navas to equalize for Argentina.
Albecelste would score another goal a few minutes later. It was a corner kick for Argentina and the ball fell to Nicolás Otamendi who headed to Nicolás Tagliafico who shouldered him and the ball would hit the crossbar and fall to Alexis Mac Allister to make it 2-1 to Argentina. Lead.
Lautaro Martínez would replace Alejandro Garnach and get his first goal for Argentina in over a year. Outside leg pass from Rodrigo De Paulo to Lautaro and he would hit a difficult angle.
Lionel Scaloni would replace Leandro Paredes for Alexis Mac Allister, Lautaro Martínez for Alejandro Garnach, Rodrigo De Paul for Gio Lo Celso, Valentín Carboni for Ángel Di María, Nicolás González for Enzo Fernández and Germán Pezzella for Nicolás Otamendi.
