The German national team is ending its long-standing partnership with Adidas and has signed a deal that will allow Nike to manufacture its kits from 2027.

Adidas last signed an 8-year deal with the German Football Association (DFB) in 2018, meaning the 2026 Men’s World Cup will be one of the last occasions the German team’s kit is made by the country’s most famous sportswear company.

During Adidas’ partnership with Germany, which spanned more than the last seven decades, the team won four Men’s World Cups, three Men’s Euros, two Women’s World Cups, and eight Women’s Euros, with the collaboration responsible for many iconic shirts throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

The DFB’s contract with Nike will run until 2034. “We are grateful that, thanks to Nike’s commitment, we can once again look forward to an economically stable future as an association,” said DFB Treasurer Stephan Grunwald.

“The awarding of the contract to our future kit supplier Nike is the result of a transparent and non-discriminatory tender process,” added DFB chairman Holger Blask.

“Nike provided by far the best financial offer and also impressed with the content of its vision, which also included a clear commitment to support amateur and amateur sports as well as the sustainable development of women’s football in Germany”

Adidas was responsible for perhaps one of the most iconic football kits: West Germany’s 1990 kit for their victorious men’s World Cup campaign. Germany’s kit for the following men’s World Cup in 1994 – where they reached the quarter-finals – is also celebrated as a triumph.

Germany’s kit for the men’s European Championship on home soil this summer will still be made by Adidas.

The deal with Nike means the first time the American sportswear company will produce a tournament kit for Germany is likely to be for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The deal will also cover the men’s European Championships in 2028 and 2032, the men’s World Cup in 2030 and 2034, the Women’s Euro 2029 and 2033, and the Women’s World Cup 2031.

“But one thing is also clear: Until December 2026, we will do everything in our power to achieve joint success with our long-standing and current partner Adidas, to whom German football owes much for more than seven decades,” said DFB President Bernd. Neuendorf said.
