Bayer Leverkusen are still unbeaten in the German Bundesliga and held a commanding 16-point lead over reigning champions Bayern Munich at the start of matchweek 29.
No side other than Bayern Leverkusen have won the German Bundesliga since 2011/12, but Xabi Alonso is closing in on a great success in his early managerial career.
His stellar season in charge of Bayer Leverkusen brought him the most attention across Europe and he has recently been the favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool following his departure at the end of the season.
However, much to the delight of Bayer Leverkusen fans, Alonso put the rumors to bed and confirmed that he will remain as coach of the German club next season.
Can Bayer Leverkusen win Today’s Bundesliga title?
Bayer Leverkusen have only dropped points on four occasions this season, with their last 1-0 away win at Union Berlin reaching 76 points on April 6.
Bayern Munich got back to winning ways on Saturday, beating FC Koln 2-0. However, this result only postpones Bayer Leverkusen’s celebrations until Sunday. Leverkusen will secure the title on April 14 with a win over Bremen at home.
