Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw by Arsenal on 31 March, ending the Premier League champions’ long streak of scoring in every home league game that ran until 30 October 2021.
Erling Haaland pulled off a hair-raising display against Arsenal last season, quite literally, as he assisted Kevin De Bruyne twice and scored another to see them win 4-1 at the Etihad. City eventually went on to lift the league title as part of a famous treble as Erling Haaland set a new record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season.
The Norwegian International striker set the league alight last season and is firmly on course to win the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season. But many strikers are now judged by their record against the ‘big six’ and Haaland failed to make his mark against Arsenal, also going clean in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
Erling Haaland’s goals against the big six of the Premier League
Haaland’s career against the big six in the league got off to a pretty crazy start when he scored a hat-trick in the Manchester derby. However, he then went three games without a goal against these sides.
Perhaps the most perplexing statistic is that as of March 31, 2024, he has yet to score away from home against a Big Six team.
