After crashing out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup with an embarrassing midweek performance in Mexico, Inter Miami must now refocus on the league when they visit Sporting KC in a special match at Arrowhead Stadium.
Like many MLS clubs before them, Inter Miami were humbled by the Liga MX club south of the border, beaten 3-1 by Monterrey to lose 5-2 in two quarterfinal rounds. Lionel Messi returned in the match after a three-week layoff due to injury, but it did little to change the course of history.
The Herons are now fully focused on league play, sitting third in the Eastern Conference but having played slightly more games than those around them. They have not won in four games in a row, with two consecutive league draws to go alongside two defeats to Monterrey.
Sporting KC are in excellent goal-scoring form, scoring 10 goals in their last four games to climb to seventh in the Western Conference standings. They were only beaten once, but also only managed to win two games, with four draws looming.
