Edinson Cavani retires from international football ahead of Copa America 2024

Uruguay Superstar Edinson Cavani has announced his retirement from international football, meaning he will not be representing Uruguay at the Copa America 2024 In USA.

Edinson Cavani is Uruguay’s second-best player with 136 games and the second-highest scorer (58) Goal behind Luis Suarez.

Edinson Cavani debuted in a friendly draw with Colombia in February 2008 and was part of the team winning the 2011 Copa America title.

However, the forward has not featured for his national team since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they were knocked out at the group stage.

In a post on social media, Cavani said: “My beloved Celeste, I want to thank you for every lesson you have given me in your process.

“I won’t be long. My words today are few but profound. Thank you to every single person who has been a part of this journey over the years. I have been and always will be blessed to wear this jersey representing what I love most about him .” this world my country

Uruguay will open their Copa America campaign against Panama on June 23.
