Harry Kane could be a doubt for England’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad as he continues to struggle with a back problem.

Gareth Southgate is expected to name his preliminary squad for UEFA Euro 2024 on Tuesday, ahead of upcoming friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland.

The England captain missed the last two Bundesliga games of the season after leaving late in the second leg of Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel confirmed Harry Kane was back in England to undergo treatment ahead of his last game against Hoffenheim.

Asked again later about the nature of the striker’s injury, Tuchel admitted that Kane had struggled for a few weeks.

“It was borderline in Madrid. We tried injections and treatments. The back is completely closed.

“It got worse and it kept breaking out in small, daily movements. There’s no way he’s training at all.”

Kane scored 36 league goals in his debut campaign for Bayern, although injury left him five short of Robert Lewandowski’s single-season goalscoring record of 41, set in 2019-20.

The final announcement of Southgate’s 26-man squad will be made on June 7, before the tournament kicks off against Serbia on June 16.
