Barcelona have confirmed that Pau Cubarsi has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him join the club until 2027.
Cubarsi has been promoted to Xavi’s senior squad this season and has quickly established himself as a regular starter, with 17 of his 20 appearances so far coming from the first whistle.
With several of Europe’s elite teams beginning to show interest, Barcelona quickly worked to tie Cubarsi down to a new three-year deal with a significantly better salary.
Cubarsi’s contract now includes a €500m (£430m) release clause so Barcelona are not forced to give him up any time soon.
After turning 18 in January 2025, Cubarsi’s contract terms are expected to improve further, with AS reporting that his next deal has already been agreed upon and will run until 2029.
Barcelona’s deal with Cubarsi is similar to that of fellow teenage star Lamine Yamal, who has already breached the terms of his first senior contract.
Lamine Yamal is still only 16 and is currently under contract until 2026, but Barca sporting director Deco recently revealed that they already have an agreement with the winger to keep him at the club for “the next eight years”.
There are also talks over an extension for full-back Hector Forto, who remains on a youth contract.
Fort, 17, has made eight appearances for Xavi’s side this season and reports suggest Barcelona are confident of signing the right-back to new terms soon.
