Uruguay secured their place in the knockout stages with an emphatic victory over Group C dwellers Bolivia in the basement.
It was Uruguay from the first whistle and they should have taken the lead within three minutes, but somehow Darwin Núñez fired home from close range.
That was not to worry Marcelo Bielsa’s side, however, and they took a deserved lead 10 minutes from time when Facundo Pellistri headed home from the spot.
Núñez made up for his earlier mistake less than 20 minutes later, doubling Uruguay’s lead and hammering the final nail in Bolivia’s coffin.
Bolivia barely had a chance to fight back in the second half and late goals from Maximilian Araújo, Federico Valverde and Rodrigo Bentancuro shut the door emphatically and sent Uruguay full speed towards the knockouts.
