Cristiano Ronaldo Takes YouTube by Storm with New Channel
Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has expanded his digital empire by launching his own personal YouTube channel, UR Cristiano. The channel, which amassed over six million subscribers on its launch day, aims to capitalize on Ronaldo’s massive social media following.
With 900 million followers on Facebook, X and Instagram, Ronaldo is now looking to take YouTube by storm. When his channel called UR Cristiano launched on Wednesday, it attracted more than six million subscribers on the same day.
The Channel Info section simply read: “Welcome to UR Cristiano – Cristiano Ronaldo’s official YouTube channel. SIUUUsubscribe!” Twelve videos were immediately posted, indicating that the project has been in the works for some time, with views ranging from 400,000 to over 2.5 million.
At the time of writing, the most viewed video is the “Mr & Mrs” game between Ronaldo and longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez. Others include Ronaldo’s evaluation of the ten goals he scored for Portugal against Greece at UEFA Euro 2004, which appears to be part of a long-running streak, and a video comparing free kicks between Ronaldo and his eldest son Cristianinho. Another about overcoming adversity is just a clip from the press conference, with Georgina looking like she’s going to play a lot.
All videos are short so far. Several were under one minute and none ran longer than three. Although popular with American sports stars in the NFL and NBA, YouTube is still a relatively untouched medium in football.
Manchester United and England’s Ella Toone launched a vlog-style channel in late 2022 to try and capitalize on their booming popularity, while former goalkeeper Ben Foster was the most prominent footballer on YouTube, ahead of Ronaldo, with The Cycling GK.
As for his career on the pitch, Ronaldo is contracted to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League until the end of the 2024/25 season. His goalscoring tally has risen again since leaving Europe, netting 50 times in 51 games last season, but the experienced forward has struggled at a higher level for Portugal at Euro 2024. Ronaldo will celebrate his 40th birthday at the beginning of 2025.
