Manchester City and Saudi Pro League club agree on transfer fee
Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo is on the brink of leaving Manchester City after the Premier League champions agreed to a £21.2 million ($27.9m) deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
The transfer is now contingent upon Joao Cancelo’s approval, with all other terms already finalized between the two clubs. The 30-year-old has been out of favor at City since a falling out with manager Pep Guardiola in January 2023.
Joao Cancelo spent last season on loan at Barcelona, but the Spanish club’s financial difficulties prevented him from making the move permanently. If given the go-ahead, Joao Cancelo is expected to sign a three-year deal with Al Hilal, officially ending his five-year loan spell at Manchester City.
His departure will add to City’s summer earnings, taking their total to £145 million ($191 million), with potential additions amounting to another £42 million ($55 million).
Man City have been active in the transfer market, with notable departures including Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £64 million ($84.4 million) and several other players leaving for £53 million ($69.9 million).
As the transfer window draws to a close, more moves could be on the horizon, including a potential loan move for Matheus Nunes to Atletico Madrid.
