Manchester United Eye Ederson as Ugarte Alternative Amid Midfield Pursuit
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson as a potential replacement for their top target, Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils have been locked in negotiations for Ugarte but have faced stiff resistance from PSG, who are holding firm on their £51 million valuation. With the transfer window nearing its close, United have identified Ederson as a viable alternative.
The Brazilian impressed during Atalanta’s successful Europa League campaign last season and has attracted interest from several other clubs, including Aston Villa, Liverpool, and potentially Atletico Madrid. However, the Italian club has placed a similar price tag on Ederson as PSG have on Ugarte, presenting another obstacle for United.
AS are now reporting that United are considering a move for Ederson as an alternative option, although they are not alone in the race. Interest has also been attributed to Aston Villa, who are looking for a more natural replacement for Douglas Luiz, while 90 Minutes previously reported Liverpool’s admiration for the Brazilian.
Atlético Madrid could also bid for Ederson if they fail to complete a deal for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, with his proposed move still up in the air.
However, United’s main stumbling block is the value of Atalanta, who Ederson wants for Ugarte as much as PSG. The Red Devils also failed to move veteran Casemiro to make room for the new star midfielder, with the veteran starting the season alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
Ederson, who turned 25 last month, has been capped twice by Brazil and was part of their Copa America squad this summer and was among Atalanta’s best performers last season on their way to Europa League glory. He was recently involved in their 2-0 defeat of Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
