Lionel Messi Out of Argentina Squad for World Cup Qualifiers.
The Argentine legend Lionel Messi, will not be joining the Argentina squad for their upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Chile and Colombia in September. The main reason for his absence is an ankle injury sustained during the Copa America final victory over Colombia in July.
Lionel Messi has not played since injuring his right ankle in the 1-0 Copa America final win over Colombia on July 14.
Inter Miami confirmed in a statement that the 37-year-old has suffered ligament damage and will be out indefinitely.
He sat out the MLS All-Star Game and missed Inter’s unsuccessful defense of the League Cup crown. Ahead of the last 16 clash with the Columbus Crew,
Inter coach Tata Martino said: “We don’t have an estimate for his return yet.”
The Herons return to MLS action on August 24 against Cincinnati, a game that also looks to come too soon for Messi in light of his Argentina miss.
