Thiago Silva has signed a new one-year contract to remain at Chelsea until the summer of 2024.
The 38-year-old has been seen as a short-term signing since joining Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020, but has become increasingly popular due to his consistent performances.
“Honestly, I’m very happy to continue my career with the Blues,” said Thiago, who helped Chelsea to Champions League glory in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
“When I signed the first contract here, it was only for one year. Now it’s the fourth. “I couldn’t have imagined it, but it was a special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea.”
Chelsea’s January transfer window saw £35m for Monaco’s Benoit Badiachile and increased numbers in the center of defence, but even as the competition grows, securing Thiago for another year remains Chelsea’s priority.
“We are delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea,” said chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali.
“He is a world-class talent, because his experience, quality and leadership skills, as he has proven for club and country over the years, are essential for our progress.
