With UEFA Euro 2024 on the horizon, hosts Germany are in pre-tournament action on Monday night when they take on Ukraine in Nuremberg.
The omens were once ominous for the German national team after a terrible 2023 as a result of an early exit from the World Cup. Had they been forced to qualify for this summer’s tournament, the three-time European champions might have struggled.
However, with Julian Nagelsmann at the helm, there is a sense that the hosts will build momentum ahead of the tournament. Germany enjoyed an excellent break in March, taking down France and the Netherlands with relative conviction. They will open the tournament on June 14 against Scotland.
Ukraine qualified for Euro 2024 via play-offs. They overcame Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland to progress and will have the chance to enjoy a prosperous summer given the group they have been drawn into. Ukraine will face Belgium, Romania and Slovakia in Group E.
